The theme of The Caricature Contest on Child Labour, first organized in 2009, was “working children”.

The aim of the contest is, with child labour in mind, to document the lives of children who work in agriculture or industrial sectors, create an archive and also encourage and support the young and,new caricaturists.

The award ceremony and the exhibition of the Caricature Contest on Child Labour with 95 caricatures of 63 caricaturists were conducted at Ankara University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Aziz Köklü Hall on 29 November, 2009.

In Turkey, one of the roots of the inequality between women and men reveal itself during their childhood in worklife. The parents send the girls to work,in order not to acquire a profession but to earn money to prepare the trousseau. However, the underlying cause of sending boys to work is in order to acquire a profession.

One of the solution for the problem of inequality of women and men may be sending the young girls to schools and waiting until they have a profession and grow up to be ready to have a job. From this point of view, the topic of the 2. Caricature Contest on Child Labour was decided as “young girl labour”.

142 caricature has taken place in the contest, coming from professionals and amateur caricaturists. The jury agreed on the caricature of İbrahim Tuncay to be granted grand prix. 30 caricatures of 23 caricaturists from 86 caricaturists were exhibited.

İbrahim Tuncay was invited to Ankara Çankaya Sanatlar Merkezi on November 3,2010 to receive his prize in the exhibition opening.

The topic of the 3. Caricature Contest on Child Labour is “health for all”. Health, according to the definition of World Health Organization; health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The aim of the contest is to remindwith the help of the caricatures that the health is a right of an individual with the help of the caricatures.

Caricatures were evaluated by the Jury consisting of Tan Oral, Oya Fişek, Prof.Dr.A.Gürhan Fişek, Muhammet Şengöz, Emre Yılmaz, İzel Rozental ve Nezih Danyal. The grand prix was shared by Hicabi Demirci and Kürşat Zaman at the end of evaluations of Jury. 50 caricatures selected among the caricatures took part in the contest to be published on album.
